Samsung F700 – GPRS/3G and MMS on Three UK

January 24th, 2008

I recently purchased a Samsung F700, in the UK these are only available on the Vodafone network but I heard they were unlocked so I took the plunge and nabbed one from Ebay. When it arrived I put my SIM card in and it all worked! I could make calls and send messages fine. However, with a phone like this you really want to use all of it and the web browser was one of the things I wanted to get up and running first, I then also wanted to get the MMS working as this was also giving me problems. If you’re in the same situation read on and I’ll give you a hand in getting it all up and running.

To start with go to the main menu and select Settings, then scroll down to Network Settings and finally to Connections. From here we’ll first add the GPRS/3G connection. Tap the menu item in the bottom left and select “Create”, I used the following information:

Set name: Three Internet
Access name: three.co.uk
Authorisation type: Normal
User ID: web
Password: web
Protocol: HTTP
Home URL: http://mobile.three.co.uk
(this doesn't seem to work on first opening the browser,
but works if you select go to home)
Proxy address: 0.0.0.0
Port: 80
Log-in timeout (sec.): 300
Advanced Settings: leave as they are

Now lets do the same for the MMS settings, again here’s my settings, many of them the same but I created a new account in the same way as above:

Set name: Three MMS
Access name: three.co.uk
Authorisation type: Normal
User ID:
Password:
Protocol: WAP
Home URL: http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
Gateway address: 217.171.129.2
Secure connection: Off
Log-in timeout (sec.): 300
Advanced settings: leave as they are

Now our two connections are setup lets actually set the apps so they use them. Return to the main menu and select Settings again, this time pick Application settings. We’ll keep things in order so select Browser settings first and simply select the “Three Internet” connection you made earlier. Now to get MMS settings working return to Application settings, select Messaging then MMS, here you need to select MMS profiles and the just select your “Three MMS” and you’re good to go!

Hopefully this guide will get you up and running, I don’t think I missed any steps but if you’re still having problems post a comment and I’ll try and help out!

This got me up and running on my f700 – thank you!

Jeremy:
I haven’t found a way around this problem yet. You should still be able to access the three webpages by going to mobile.three.co.uk. It knows you’re on a three sim so it shows you your account info and all that stuff.

Lauren:
I don’t have the settings for ATT but you should hopefully be able to find them by searching the ATT site or google, don’t search for F700 specifically, try just searching for the settings you’re after. I searched for Three MMS and GPRS settings to get mine.

Hello,

I have the settings for T-Mobile’s internet for the F700, goto our page http://www.MobileUnlimited.net and click on the Support page and then Internet/MMS and there’s a step by step on how. I do not however know how to get the MMS settings to work, if someone would be kind enough to goto the Contact Us page of our site and send me the F700 MMS settings it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
